JBA Basketball Players

Player Development
Most players who play youth basketball will never make it to the NBA or even play college basketball. Only a handful will ever play high school varsity basketball. So, what are we doing?
Through the game of basketball we are teaching young players many important life skills; working hard, being committed, getting through adversity, working with a team, how to get along with others, how to have others count on you, how to learn and have fun at the same time, how to win or lose graciously, the importance of sportsmanship, etc..
We are also helping children develop a positive attitude toward physical activity and the importance of staying physically fit. Helping children become coordinated and more athletic when they are young will help them stay active the rest of their life. It will also help them build a positive self-esteem and self-image as they mature. Its simple, physically active people are healthy people, healthy people are happy people.
In addition to these two basic goals, we are developing athletic, coordinated, well-skilled basketball athletes in a progressive, long-term system. JBA is not interested in the “peak by Friday” mentality of coaching basketball players. We are interested in a step-by-step, long-term approach to basketball athlete development.
There is always going to be athletes that are “gifted” or that develop quicker than others. JBA is not interested in developing the gifted athlete at the expense of those that develop at a normal pace. It is the goal of JBA to develop ALL basketball athletes who show the desire and commitment necessary to become a good basketball player.
Long-term player development is the cornerstone of JBA basketball. It is why we exist. It is our aim to teach state-of-the-art, fundamentally sound basketball skills and techniques to basketball athletes and do so in a fun and caring environment.
As we teach basketball, we are also teaching skills that will translate to home, school and community. The lessons learned playing basketball will help children have a well-rounded and balanced outlook their whole life. The game of basketball is a great teacher. This is not lip service. THIS IS WHAT WE DO.
The entire JBA program is focused on this goal. Everything from how we form teams, how divisions are formed, how much practice and game time is allocated, how our coaches and referees are trained, to how the JBA curriculum is put together, is all designed to develop well-rounded, fundamentally capable, physically fit basketball athletes. The JBA program gives every player, not just the young gifted athlete, an opportunity to develop in the best environment possible.
